1. Chad Pennington threatens to make a real football fan out of me. This is probably a bad idea in the long run, the Jets being the Jets.

2. I saw two movies over Thanksgiving. “Master and Commander” gets a big thumbs up, despite an expendable subplot or two; I’m now resolved to read those books, though I think I’ll skip the first one. I really liked Paul Bettany–I’d never seen him in anything before.

“Shattered Glass” gets a great big “eh”. Partly because when I see Hayden Christiansen I can’t forget the three dollars and two and a half wasted hours of my life I wasted on Attack of the Clones; partly because there just wasn’t enough at stake to sustain a two hour movie; partly because of my own travails and irritations with journalism.

3. I just accepted a summer job in N.Y. (it’s for an environmental non-profit; I shouldn’t say which one–I will say that they’re effective, not crazy, and I’m very excited.) If Kevin Drum use his blog to give away a couch, I can ask: does anyone know someone who wants to trade a one bedroom apartment in NY for one in Boston over the summer? Or where one would look for such a person, or for good deals on sublets, or other relatively cheap housing options in New York that do not involve moving in with parents? (Several people have recommended craigslist.). If so, email me at katherinesblog@hotmail.com.

  1. After that glorious goal line stand by the 10-2 Patriots, you are considering the Jets?????????? Oh Katherine, you’re killin’ me.

  2. Re: Master and Commander, why skip the first book? It gives a nice introduction to the characters and sets up the Aubrey/Maturin friendship, and the plot is not the plot of the movie.

  3. Not considering the Jets; you’re a year late on that one. The question is whether I actually care about footboall or not. But however much or little I care, “Team Shrek” is the team for me.
What do you think of Schilling and the new manager?
Ana, I couldn’t get through it a few years ago. I’ve been told the second and third books suck you in a little better.
