It’s time, once again, for the SotU drinking game. Useful additions welcome below: for the sake of balance, couple an cliche from the Other Side to drink to with a cliche from your own.

Who’s doing the Democratic response? Will it be a non-descript governor? An awkward Daschle and Gephardt fireside chat where they look they’re going to announce their engagement? Our cruel empress?
(Not that you guys pick the biggest winners either. Steve Largent indeed.)
My vote is for Harold Ford, Jr.
Freedom = 1 drink. (by drink I mean a sip, not an entire glass or bottle.)
“September eleventh” = 1 drink
“Nine eleven” = 2 drinks
“Osama bin Laden” = shot
religious reference = 1 drink
“tax relief” = 1 drink
oblique reference to gay marriage = 3 drinks
token deficit reduction plan = 2 drinks
I can’t really suggest from my own side if I don’t know who’s giving the response. I will offer:
jobs = 1 drink.
deficit = 1 drink. That should get you well on your way.
As for actual content–I predict that Bush will try to rescue the doctrine of the pre-emption from the fact that the threat we were supposedly pre-empting turned out to not exist. If the democrats are smart they’ll be well prepared to refute the doctrine if not the war. But they aren’t.
I vaguely recall last year’s enjoyable SotU Drinking Game, in which we cut up the list and divided it between about seven of us and still had a tough time. I had the unlucky “five-syllable-or-more word” card, and wouldn’t you know it, in the midst of his AIDS proposal, he pulled off “antiretroviral.”
I’m just trolling around seeing who linked to our game. I remember “antiretroviral” from last year too 🙂
Have fun playing this year.
