It May Come Up…

…the special election in Kentucky, that is. Ben Chandler (D) vs. Alice Forgy Kerr (R). Interestingly, whoever wins this seat is going to have to run again in November, which makes things complicated: there’s already one Republican jockeying for position* in case the current candidate loses the special election. As Chandler is the former State Attorney General and the loser of last year’s gubernatorial election (the winner, Ernie Fletcher, then vacated the seat that Chandler is now running for) and Kerr’s a state Senator, there’s a strong case to be made that this is going to be one of those complicated races that will give all sorts of insights into the KY political scene. Or at least, it may be endlessly hyped as same: depends on how interesting the national political news is in a week or so. Either way, check it out; people actually from KY are, of course, welcome to give whatever inside dirt / exposition that they are willing to provide.

(Via the Instadude: Chandler’s got a Blogad up on Glenn’s site. I suspect that Chandler’s campaign may be clued-in a little about the Internet…)

*Said Republican, state Senator Tom Buford, also stated in that article that the Bush administration is not going to campaign for Kerr, on the grounds that she’s going to lose anyway. For all I know, this is true, although there’s no official corroboration (not that there would be). Seriously, Kentuckian input on this welcome.
