I don’t know whether this was originally an incredibly stupid act of bigotry or just an incredibly stupid publicity stunt* – I tend towards the former, but a reading of the article gives some weight to the latter – but I’m sure that all of you will be happy to know that Rhea County has rescinded their gan on gay people.
The Rhea County Commission, meeting in a carnival atmosphere in the same courtroom where the Scopes Monkey Trial was held, took two minutes Thursday night rescinding a Tuesday vote seeking to ban gays from the county.
How nice of them, the [expletive deleted]. You’ve already had your fifteen minutes, guys; no overdrafts, please.

*Please note that my reaction to this would not be significantly improved by proof that this was a publicity tourist stunt of some kind – indeed, I actually would be offended more, not less. Bigotry’s based on ignorance, and ignorance is curable. Bigotry mixed with greed’s a bit harder to treat.
The Commission probably just didn’t realize there were actually gays in Rhea county – when informed of the facts, and seeing the sky hadn’t fallen, they realized the measure wasn’t needed.
Meanwhile, back in the civilized world, a possible explanation why the 11-M attack took place: Spain and Morroco were sulking about a marble and wouldn’t play together.
I eagerly await Thorley’s post in this thread explaining how the Rhea County Commission’s original proposal was really the fault of gay activists and their judicial activist co-conspirators… 😉
I like to think that even Thorley’s bigotry has limits. I’m going to assume that his absence from this thread proves that…
Rilkefan, I like: The Commission probably just didn’t realize there were actually gays in Rhea county – when informed of the facts, and seeing the sky hadn’t fallen, they realized the measure wasn’t needed. That fits the facts! 😉
