Meta-blog discussion.

‘Tis probably an undead thread, but I’m curious about something. I’ve noticed that some of the trackbacks to our posts are one-way (ie, there’s no link back to our original post at the article). Ignore? Delete? And why do people do it? It’s not that much trouble to link both ways, right?

  1. oops. I noticed I let out a word. Should be:
OK, here’s another reason not to have your *own* blog…
Sorry, typing with a 4 year old on my shoulders…

  2. Well, that’s putting a good spin on it rilkefan. I would have gone with just stupid, but I like your take better. 😉

  3. I think it’s in bad form to be trackbombing someone without even linking to the post you are “referencing.” Some people forget that in blogging, “referencing” actually means linking to others.

  4. OK, I get OF Jay’s and Mithras’ points, but does anybody know why people trackbomb (that’s the term?), considering that adding a link back is easy to do?

  5. i used to think it was weird to, say, link to a blogger who linked to a NYT article that you would have read anyway, but now I realize it’s just how blogospheric etiquette works. it does seem silly if you step back from it for a second though.

  6. If you would have read the article anyway, I think it’s okay not to track back as long as you didn’t get an idea for your post from a comment that original blogger made.
