But mc master chef is all right*, so I figure that there must be something to it. The Bike and Build site is here; at first glance there doesn’t seem to be anything pernicious about it – indeed, quite the opposite.
And that was my ‘crusty VRWC Death Beast grudgingly supporting a progressive notion’ impression. Does it need more work? I think that it needs more work.

*Needs to blog more, though.
Hey, thanks for the notice. Way guilty on the “needs to blog more” count though. I’m amazed that you still do me the courtesy of sticking me in the “Regulars” section, I’ve been so sparse on my comments (here and everywhere) lately.
I’ll try to post a picture or two of the actual sleep-out itself at some point so you visitors might see our cardboard mansions in all their tarp-covered glory. Despite the cold and hard slabs of concrete underneath us, it was good times, and a generous donor who just happens to be a family friend of our chapter president matched our panhandling to the tune of another $500. Nice. Hopefully in future incarnations of the event we’ll be able to do a better job of getting sponsors in advance and getting more people to commit to sleeping out the whole night. Maybe go for 24 hours+? I’m probably going to get myself elected President of the BU Habitat chapter next week so I’ll have to be thinging about that come next spring.
I cannot emphasize enough how big a difference it being dry and not pouring down sheets of cold rain made between this year and last. Even with that… concrete plaza and cardboard box, not a pleasant place to spend the night. I can’t pretend to have developed a deep understanding of what it must be like to live homeless for uncountable days on end, but I did gain an immediate reminder of how nice four walls and a warm bed can be. I’m looking forward to next year.
