CUL8R, NOT ;-p

Because we could all use some lighter “news”:

Britons Using Text to Break Up More Often

Nine percent of Britons admit to dumping a partner by sending an SMS text message on a cell phone — possibly signalling the beginning of the end for the “Dear John” letter — according to a new survey.

Among those aged 15 to 24, the figure rises to 20 percent.

IOW, IOH

  1. Edward, that the saddest thing I ever heard. It doesn’t allow either partner the chance to beg for “one last time”, you know, for old time’s sake.

  2. Oh, I don’t know Fabius…my better half rented “Something’s Gotta Give” the other day (because I wouldn’t be caught dead renting such romantic fluff…er, um, OK, who am I kidding, right? anyway…) and the main characters were able to safely re-touch base via IM in a way telephones or chance meetings would not have allowed because of the emtional voice or body language issues.
For each dehumanizing touch technology brings, there are advantages waiting to be siezed, I believe.

  3. You’re probably better at these text thingies than I am, Jesur, but by the time the inevitable “No way” came back I would be so entranced in Space Ghost” that I would forget to reply (which, BTW, would be the reason I was being dumped in the first place). Nothing matches a good vis-a-vis for making a convincing case for a corps-a-corps.

  4. Edward, did you use the pause button on Diane Keeton? This will help me determine your age. (I did. I’m old. Oh, and I rented it. I’m so married.)

  5. Pause button on Keeton to determine Eddie’s age.
    Fabius?
Space Ghost reference was similarly confusing FYI.

  6. Timmy, I think you are right about my pause button reference as determining age. I thought that since Diane Keeton was nearing 60 that only an old fart like me would pause the DVD during her brief nude scene. Upon reflection, though, use of the pause button when a actress in nude only shows that one is male.
The Space Ghost reference was only to show that the time delay involved in text messaging would probably cause me to be distracted by something else – even something as inane as Space Ghost.
BTW, Timmy, thanks for pointing out that not only are my quips not funny but they are also oblique.

  7. Good choice of films Edward. It made me laugh out loud several times. Yes, love and sex do exist after puberty! By the way, this post depressed me. Another example of people being cruel and adolescent towards each other.

  8. And yet, asdf, I bet I wept more salt tears over lost love than he did with a mere half a dozen nails in his brain.

  9. Hey, Edward. After all the great posts, digilent research and superb analysis you’ve come to be known for around here did you happen to see the Brad DeLong reference to you?
Ain’t that just the way things go?

  10. ah, but Brad missed that Insty actually retracted his post after Drum drummed him on it.
He still hasn’t recanted his implied support for torture, as far as I can tell.

  11. Yeah, Fabius, I saw it…what can I say, that’s the day he decided to read something I wrote…you’re only as good as your last attempt.

  12. Fabius, I think your Diane Keaton/pause test presumes at least one more thing beyond male-ness.
I wasn’t going to bring it up, but…

  13. I see that I should have said nothing about my pause button. What a man does with his DVD player is personal and shouldn’t be published across blogistan. At least paused Diane would never dump me with a text message.

  14. Sorry if I trespassed, Edward.
I loved that movie, by the way. It was funny, yet had emotional dept that a lot of the comedies these days lack. And it made me remember stupid things that I’ve said to love interests, which was funny in sort of an embarrassingly painful way.

  15. So I hear that Edward is now a celeb which is really nice.
Fabius on my comment early in the morning still waiting for the coffee to kick in.

  16. Timmy, thanks. Now you’re saying I went through all that explaining for nothing. You really know how to hurt a guy.

  17. Slarti and Edward already covered the point regarding this: “Upon reflection, though, use of the pause button when a actress in nude only shows that one is male,” that I was going to make.
Partially. It can also show that you’re a female of a certain turn of mind.
    HTH, HAND.
