It screams at you on the FoxNews.com site homepage: U.S. Confirms WMDs Found in Iraq
But it’s not very likely the discovery that an IED exploded today contained sarin (and another was found to contain mustard gas) will justify that editorial choice.
From MSNBC.com
Two former weapons inspectors — Hans Blix and David Kay — said the shell was likely a stray weapon that had been scavenged by militants and did not signify that Iraq had large stockpiles of such weapons.
No, just enough to let those who really wanted there to be WMD in Iraq believe they’re now exonerated. Well done Fox.
At least they had the editorial integrity to note that the billowing cloud of red gas in the accompanying photo is not from chemical weapons.
yeah…for those who read that far, there it is…
We Juxtapose. You Decipher.
The question I have if it was a ‘stray weapon’ is ‘stray’ from what? It isn’t like weapons shells evolve into mutant strains or something.
Stray from the stockpiles that were destroyed or hidden even better than this one apparently was….
Maybe it fell off a truck on its way to Syria…

The implication was the Iran/Iraq war, but given FOX’s penchant for infotainment I’m not going to swear to it.
Rummy, to his credit, is not crowing. He was very measured in his comments at the Heritage foundation today. Learned a lesson, it seems.
A shell left over from the Iran/Iraq war, BFD. Perhaps Rummy is learning when not to crow. He is a fairly bright guy, misguided and inclined to hear what he want’s to hear (Chalabi), but a bright gut none the less. {sarcasm tags enabled}
OT: My observations on the more effective John Kerry (than the media would have you believe) at a rally in downtown Portand, OR today, with Howard Dean.

My understanding is that Sarin would not have survived in a shell for 20 years. Is that incorrect?
Rumsfeld is now warning that the field test that indicated it was sarin is a bit unpredictable, so it’s still not time to break out those headlines.
This is a lose/lose situation for Bush. If there is a credible amount of sarin kicking around and if it is available for the rebels to use, there will be a mss exodus of “civilian contractors.” But I ond’t think this is going to pan out as much.
Sebastian: I read somewhere yesterday (I don’t remember where) that the shell contained two chemcals in separate compartments which, when combined, made sarin. This was felt to be a relatively ineffective chemical weapon in that it wouldn’t have delivered much even if fired as designed.
The Chemical Question
With the appearance of a few chemical warheads in Iraq, the Left is quick to inform us that this doesn’t actually mean that Iraq had WMDs. While this is a factual statement (the shells certainly could have come from Syria…
