Another Kind of Evil (part 2)

Looks like the Pentagon is now aligned with State and the CIA in their dislike for Chalabi:

U.S. Troops Surround Chalabi’s House

“They came this morning, entered the office of Dr. Ahmad Chalabi and said that they were looking for people,” said Abdul Kareem Abbas, an INC official. He said they wanted to make arrests.

The police took personal documents belonging to Chalabi and his computer.

“At the beginning, we tried to resist. But we couldn’t because they came with U.S. troops,” Abbas said.

Another official, Qaisar Wotwot, said the operation was linked to Chalabi’s recent comments demanding full Iraqi control of oil revenues and security after the June 30 transfer of power.

I told him he had better act fast to earn his salary. Too late.

  1. I told him he had better act fast to earn his salary. Too late.
You didn’t e-mail him, did you? He’s been having trouble with Outlook recently. I told him to switch to Mozilla Thunderbird, but you know what he’s like.

  2. Chalabi is seriously pooched. I’ve been figuring it was only a matter of time before something like this happened–he’s been badmouthing the US occupation with increasing volume and frequency. Unfortunately, he’s about to learn that with the Bush administration, you’re only free from accountability and consequences if you stay loyal and on-message.
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Really.

  3. The administration needs someone to blame this mess on and Chalabi seems like a really good candidate. Of course they won’t do anything to the idiots who listened to the crook to begin with.

  4. A patently transparent attempt to give Chalabi credibility with the Iraqis. All part of the plan to bring him to power. Won’t work, but the idiots surrounding Bush had to try something.

  5. You know, that was my first response as well, Alan, but the information he’s reportedly given to the Iranians that could “cost lives” suggests it’s more than that.
