…just went to go see Shrek 2. Sweet Jeebus, was that a hysterical movie. I was frankly half-certain that it was going to suck, but I was happily proved to be wrong. I still don’t want to see a third one, though. There’s a limit to how many times you can go to that particular well.
Spiderman 2’s out at the end of the month. Here’s hoping that it won’t suck, either…

I loved the first one, and I thought Shrek 2 was even better. I didn’t believe it when friends told me so, as I’m generally very skeptical about sequels, but they really did it.
I’m inclined to agree with you about a third movie–but then again, after the first Shrek I said it was one of those movies they shouldn’t make a sequel for.
I was delightfully, wonderfully wrong. 🙂
It seems like Pixar can do no wrong in the animation department, and DreamWorks is starting to give them a run for their money.
i agree about 2 good Shreks being enough but you just know that a 400 million world-wide gross (before DVD’s) is going to be too sweet for Pixar to pass on Shrek 3. As far as Spiderman 2 is concerned, why shouldn’t it suck, the first one was a yawner.
I heard they are already working on Shrek 4.
Edward,
Yep…
Jeffrey Katzenberg announced in Cannes this week that Dreamworks plans to do a “Shrek 3” and a “Shrek 4” should the latest sequel be a success.
“Before the first one was finished we talked about what the whole story of Shrek is, and each of the chapters answers questions about the first movie and gives us an insight.”
“Shrek 3 and 4 are going to reveal other unanswered questions and, finally, in the last chapter, we will understand how Shrek came to be in that swamp, when we meet him in the first movie. There is a reason he came to be there, but there is another chapter to the story before that”, he says.
Sounds cool. I predict that donkey will get his own movie…

One of my friends worked on the FX for Spiderman 2. As far as I can tell, he’s never worked on a movie that *didn’t* suck (due largely to the fact that moviemakers who cared enough about the FX in their movies to hire the shops he’s worked for blew all of their money on the FX and didn’t have any left over for things like script work).

No, no, no, no, no, no, and again, no! PDI/Dreamworks created “Shrek”. Pixar, on the other hand, creates truly great animated films.
