I’m currently engaged in the tricky task of metabolizing two beers and several glasses of a surprisingly good cafe zinfandel at this NJ D&D party that I’m at now, but I must say: the America’s 9/11 Ride thing was pretty cool. Even when it held us up for a half an hour at the Delaware toll plaza.
Consider this an open-except-for-Swifties thread, but I’d recommend topics that will lower blood pressure. ‘Course, I’m feeling no pain and all men are my brothers right now, so what do I know?
[UPDATE] My girlfriend has just snorted and said, “It was fifteen minutes, not half an hour.” Ignore her, she’s been drinking.
Courtesy of praktike a very interesting photo gallery (a tad slow). It’s long been my observation that the Iranians were among the handsomest people in the world and their ladies very stylish, indeed.
Don’t know about lowering blood pressure, but at least it’s nothing to do with Swift boats:
And it continues in similar vein…
I’m still boggling at the anal probe news. I went to the last World Science-Fiction Convention in Glasgow, the one where Samuel R. Delany was guest of honor, and I didn’t see any anal probes…
For those wondering, anoraks are an English science fiction fandom thing. Sorta like the propeller beanies of our fathers, if I understand rightly. 🙂
However, I swear to you, I do not believe that anal probes are a Scottish science-fiction thing. (Haggises, maybe.)
“For those wondering, anoraks are an English science fiction fandom thing.”
Actually, no. They’re a type of outerwear, and the most common British synonym for “nerd,” and while it’s applicable in said usage to sf fans, it didn’t originate in regard to them, but rather to British rail fans who obsessively take notes on rail cars, carriages, locomotives, their numbers, and details, which requires standing outside for long periods, sometimes in the rain, thus requiring wearing your anorak.
I’ve had that Herald link in my “to blog” list for nearly a couple of weeks, meaning to get around to it; although it’s typical of a billion other such moronically inaccurate articles, it did stand out for being one of the most recent (and the Worldcon won’t even be back in Glasgow until next year; this year/month it’s in Boston, again). Oh, well.
And, for your viewing pleasure an anorak.
moe: a D&D party is Dubonnet and what? you swingers….
Random drink-related thing for you to chew on, Moe: Jess and I have been making liqueurs. Two cups of vodka, three cups of fruit, munge well and let steep in a cool, dark place in a nonreactive container for two weeks, shaking every few days. Strain through cheesecloth after two weeks, add a cup of sugar (or better yet, sugar solution), let age as long as desired. Usually drinkable after a week or two.
Last night we enjoyed the–ah–fruits of our efforts, and let me tell you… the fresh-picked blueberry and blackberry liqueurs were to /die/ for.
