Iraq Update

Having been so negative on Iraq of late, I’m pleased to pass along a contrary view from one of our soldiers serving in theatre (via Smash). Remember, though: Just as a bird’s eye view risks missing the sand for the desert, a ground’s eye view risks a greater failing — seeing only the sand, and then only a small patch of it. Still, hope is hope, and I hope this fellow is correct.

  1. very nicely written. it’s a great relief that from ops HQ (presumably somewhere near the middle of the green zone) everything looks hunky dory, and that we can find out everything we need to know about the situation — and apparently about war in general — by watching old John Wayne movies. I feel better and safer in every way.
or at least I would if Joe Roche hadn’t screwed it up for everybody.

  2. “Yeah, referencing The Green Berets does not exactly fill me with confidence.”
But George Takei and John Wayne were so brave! And who couldn’t be filled with waves of… something at that song?
(I still miss when we used to say “referring to.”)
