Fafnir to the Rescue

OK, so it’s cold comfort that Michael Brown had to leave the Gulf Coast because "other challenges and threats remain around the world" but never fear, Fafnir’s here. With his "Do-It-Yourself Emergency Management Guide," the savvy Sri Lankan saves the day:

Today we’re gonna show you how to get through a major disaster just usin stuff you’ve got lyin around the home.

You will need:

  • construction paper
  • glue or glue sticks
  • a can of baking soda
  • some play-doh (optional)
  • 200 gallons of distilled water and 100 pounds of canned food
  • The topics covered in the DIYEMG include Make-And-Bake Clay Levee!, Do-It-Yourself National Guard!, and (my personal favorite), How to Make a Paper Helicopter (you’ve got to see the picture).

    1. I actually thought I had happened upon Fafnir’s secret identity today, but I was mistaken.
Fafnir had mentioned in a thread, ages ago, that he’s Sri Lankan…not sure why that stuck in my otherwise normally inefficient memory, but it did.

    2. There is this diary over at DKos by Spiderleaf talking about Blackwater Associates mercenaries showing up in New Orleans, all over the place. Conflicting stories on where their authority derives.
This is a private army of security velociraptors fresh from Iraq.
I remember joking on a thread about a year ago regarding Iraq as a training ground for public and private agents of the State, whom might then be employed on domestic soil.
I don’t like this. I hate it when I spin paranoia that turns out to be reality.

    3. John Thullen, I began to reply to you, but then went so long that I put it at my own place, here. General gist: subcontracting basic governmental services is inefficient and immoral. I also give links to more authoritative sources of Blackwater’s being in NO, viz, Gary’s link to the NYT, and Kathryn Cramer’s work.
And more on-topic: how can it be that Fafblog has been a bloggish staple for over two years and he (I do think it’s a him) has not yet been outed?!? This is an outrage, and I demand that Giblets form an investigatory commission to discover the truth in this important affair.

    4. I recommend following Jackmormon’s link for some tightly reasoned argument.
Then follow his link to Kathryn Cramer and check out the thought-provoking connection between Blackwater’s presence in New Orleans, eminent domain, and the Kelo decision.
