I Love This Sentence

by hilzoy

From Pharyngula, a glorious sentence to be thankful for:

“This video from the BBC of slugs mating is spectacular—it’s got mucus ropes, everting male organs, entwining penises, and penises forming a translucent flower-like globe.”

Before blogs, I would never, ever have encountered that sentence, and my life would have been the poorer for it. Especially the translucent flower-like globe part.

The video really is spectacular: who knew that mating slugs looked like something by Balanchine? Or that their penises were blue and (apparently) glowing, and emerge from behind their ears? And “translucent flower-like globe” is a much more accurate description than you’d think possible, given what it’s a description of. Translucent and blue! Go watch.

    I’m also not that flexible.

  2. Every one of my sweeties has always remarked on this.
Really? Blue? I thought it was a figure of speech…

  3. Bob,
There are RealPlayer clones, meant for people such as yourself. I’ve heard RealAtLast is good, though I haven’t seen it in action yet.
