Let Me See that Tootsie Roll

by Eric Martin

Daniel Larison bemoans the “Whatever it is I think I see” approach to foreign policy plaguing the Republican Party:

…I am depressed that the range of acceptable foreign policy debate in leading Republican circles stretches all the way from “attack them” (it does not really matter which state we’re discussing) to the cliche of “actions, not words.”

His lament comes in the context of Governor Mark Sanford’s endorsement of Newt Gingrich’s take on the recent North Korea missile test.  Gingrich argues that starting a war with North Korea in order to prevent the recent missile test would have been the right thing to do.  That would be while we’re fighting a war in Iraq.  And a war in Afghanistan.

Gingrich alleges that Obama’s failure to adopt this course of action is a sign of Obama’s hopeless naivete.

Riiiight.
