Late Thursday Memorial Flame-Fest Open Thread

Screw it.  Y’all are just begging for a flame-fest, but the posting rules don’t allow for one, no matter how much windowpane you’ve had.  Mope about no more, lads and lassies (where’s Timmy when you need him?); there are flame-fests galore (deluxe, even) about the ‘net.  Slide on over and give as good as you get.  Then remember why we has da rules.  And yah, I know, it was a joke.

And if it’s flameproof chuckles you’re after, am I the last person on the planet to discover these delectables?  No?  Back to what you were doing, then, oozing pantloads.

  4. I’m going with the hoax angle. Usually when dealing with recorded phone conversations, there’s a different tonal quality and ambience to the voices at either end, due to the different telephone equipment and the difference in environment. These two voices sounded like they’d gone through exactly the same sets of modifications.

    Yep. Three of ’em were Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale; 7.2% alcohol. The other was some microbrew out of Colorado; no idea what the alcohol content was. And yes, I fully admit to being a lightweight, which made the IBA hit me all that much harder.

    Of course, now that I’m back on Atkins (target weight – 210 lbs, 16 lbs to go), no beer of any sort for me. Straight Canadian Whisky, thanks. No carbs to speak of, thank Dionysus.

    I’m trying SO hard to get back on induction but I keep cheating! WAAAHHH! I was on maintenance, but I got lax and my weight crept up by 10lbs and now I just can’t seem to get back on track. *self pity*

  8. Votermom – I bought an electronic bathroom scale that expresses my fat content as a percentage of volume. BIG incentive. I’m down to 226lb from my peak 250lbs.
    A good low carb cookbook is a big must, as well as lots of low carb snacks (cheeses, olives, boiled eggs) that you can turn to when you want some toast. A friend who bakes was trying to get me to eat a cookie the other day, and offered me several varieties, before asking in frustration “Well, what kind of cookies CAN you eat?” “Ones made from meat” I told her.
    And as I type, I’m eating grilled turkey smokies with steamed kale, broccoli, and chard. Mmm.

    Excellent question. I assume that the bolt of electricity that it shoots up one leg and then picks up the returning current in the other provides data that can be interpreted.
    It also measures your hyration level.
    And no, I don’t feel the current.

  11. Nice work on the weight-loss, dpu. Since 1/1/05, I’ve dropped around 20-23 lbs., going from 212 down to 188-191 in the last couple of days. I didn’t change my carb intake at all — and as a vegetarian, I tend to consume a lot of carbs. For me, it’s all down to portion control combined with working out at least four times per week, making sure I’m burning 700-800 calories per workout session.

    I spent a period where all my close friends were vegetarians. As I have a cooking obsession, I bought all the MooseWood cookbooks, learned how to make gluten, and was semi-vegetarian for about a year. At the same time, I was doing a 30 kilometer bike commute every day (~18.5 miles), and lifted weights four times a week. That’s when I really piled on the gut-fat, up to 250 lbs (I’m 6′ 5″).
    Yeah, potion control was the issue, and what I suspect makes the Atkins diet work for me. Fat fills me up pretty quick, and it takes much longer for me to feel hungry.
    Congrats on the weight loss, those are some impressive numbers.

    Ahhh. You really did mean American beers, not American “beers” (fun fact: Bud isn’t actually a real beer). Good on ya, and the brews sound mighty tasty too!

    No! Nononono. No. Strictly against posting rules. I actually cried myself silly over some of them; if you don’t get that some sort of sick, perverted higher art form is being…perpetrated, there, you’re just not getting it.
