It’d be fantastic, as long as he gets someone else to write the scripts. JMS is great at plotting, not so hot on characters, atrocious on dialogue.
Yeah, you saw that too. And you got excited too. And you thought, “Trek doesn’t HAVE to be crap,” too.
However, given the Iron Law of Berman-Era Trek, or ILOBET, which states that things can and will always descend one level lower, this will never happen.
The next Trek series will be a Starfleet Academy series about totally X-treme Federation kids and their quests for life, love, and self-esteem in a galaxy that’s, well, just a little edgy. Starring Katie Holmes and Nick Lachey.
Hey, we haven’t had a sitcom yet.

What? No, he didn’t say anything, folks, nothing to see here, we’ll just be going now, thanks for everything, somebody get the door? Much obliged…

Aw crap. I was promised a version of DS9 with no fuel and diminishing supplies mixed with 3rd rate celebrity Survivor.
JMS is great big-picture guy, but his dialog and plotting leave a lot to be desired.
Still, it could hardly be worse than what we’ve had recently and I’m sure they would let him write nearly as many episodes as he did on B5.
Still, in tho words of a great philospher:
“It could happen…and monkeys could fly out of my butt”
Me, I’m waiting for Rick Berman’s Star Trek Babies. With the voices of E.G. Daily, Tress MacNeille, and Billy West as “L’il Spock.” (“Taking my binky isn’t wogical!”)
Mother of Pete, the mere thought of JMS plotting out and making a new Trek series gets me full timber. If it’s true and it rocks, I’ll sing paeans. If it’s rumor or it sucks, I will damn him to the second circle of hell.
But only the second. B5 redeems him from the rest of them.
