It’s got all the hallmarks, really. It’s important enough to be adequately symbolic and obscure enough to be safely abandoned by either side, if necessary: the parties that choose to get involved will have plenty of opportunities to safely exhibit their real feelings about Reagan/their opponents; and, of course, either way the Unitarians probably end up metaphorically taking it on the chin (Rivka, I truly sympathize). You heard about the latest tempest-in-a-teacup here first, folks.
