I am clearly looked upon with suspicion by my masters.

I mean, I didn’t get an invitation to blog from the GOP convention, unlike some people I know; I still haven’t seen one thin dime of the Right-wing blood money that’s supposed to be falling from the sky in a veritable torrent for all us “warbloggers”; and now I find out that apparently I’m not on anybody’s dirty-tricks mailing list. Steven den Beste gets people trying to scam him out; what am I, chopped liver?

This is all about the Micah Wright thing: to those of you scratching your heads, it was an amusing little scandale that broke a bit back. Turned out that somebody who claimed to be a former Army Ranger, wasn’t; a situation that would be mostly of academic interest, save that the fellow was using said false status for moral authority purposes when he was spouting off against the war. For further information, feel free to check out ASV, Treacher and the aforementioned den Beste, if you like and if you care. If not, that’s fine, too. Some of my posts are all for me, me, ME!

(pause)

Yes, yes, sharing violation, sorry about that.

PS: Oh, yeah: I am not Jon Henke. Or Oberon. Or Jeff Goldstein, although I wasn’t really kidding about the monster from my id part.

I mean that in a good way, of course.

My God; is den Beste able to write less than 2500 words on any subject?
(FYI — We will not be identifying full ip addresses on ObWi, as den Beste does in the linked post.)

  2. I am not Jon Henke.
    – – -Well, that clears that up. Still, it’s a tough break. Think how much the two of us couuld have gotten done.

*** Pejman reviews The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt… “Neocon!” his critics would shout at him. “Warmonger!” they would say to vilify him. And yet, Roosevelt’s foreign policy views were perhaps some of the most consequential to be held by an…

  4. den Beste’s thing was faintly amusing, as such things typically are, though as usual he took something that could have been explained in ten-to-thirty words, and spun it out into a novella.
I was struck by this, however:

Remember, a lot of people on the loonie left also think that the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal is morally equivalent to the attack on the US on 9/11, and that Abu Ghraib demonstrates that we (the US) are just as bad as al Qaeda. Actually, to read what some of them say, Abu Ghraib proves that we are worse.

I’ve yet to see a single person say such a thing; I’m sure nutcases on Indymedia or somewhere loony can be found who have; there are always nuts to be found who say anything.
But we typically, if we’re sensible, reserve our bringing up of quotes to denounce them to cases where someone prominent or worth denouncing has said them, not someone who is walking down the street, shouting and drooling while wearing aluminum foil on their head.
So which, say, newspaper columnist has said such a thing? Can anyone name three? One?
How about a top 100 blogger? Anyone? Top 200? Anyone?
Who are these “a lot of people” den Beste is familiar with?
    Do you know any, Moe?

  5. Gary, I suggest that you take it up with den Beste: the comment that you have issues with is secondary to his main point and not particularly relevant to why I posted.

  6. “Shamefully, we now learn that Saddam’s torture chambers reopened under new management: U.S. management.” -Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.
“The former vice president [Al Gore] accused the commander in chief of being responsible for “an American gulag” in Abu Ghraib, as depraved as anything devised by the Marquis de Sade. It was hard to tell whether President Bush would be more offended by the sadomasochism or by the fact that the marquis was French.” – Maureen Dowd, New Republic.
There’s two, Gary. Perhaps you’re familiar with them ? If you’d like more, do your own research. (Google just “Abu-Ghraib” and you’ll get almost 500,000 references. Plenty of good, unfocused lefty teeth-gnashing in there, I’m sure) Although I will agree with you that it is quite easy to find nuts who will say anything – especially in the rarified ivory towers inhabited by left-wing zealots like these two idiots.
