OK, this is not funny.

The author of this doesn’t know me, or those like me. He or she has no idea what we go through, what it takes for us to get through the day. I’m not pushing it on anybody else; it’s nobody’s business but my own and my loved ones what I do or spend money on, unless I’m hurting people – which I’m not . So back off, Mr or Ms High-and-Mighty, Judge-Not-Ley-Ye-Be-Judged Article Writer: you’re messing with stuff important to me!

Besides, I can give it up any time I like.

  1. I live in Norway, so you can imagine the influence of Ikea on my life. My computer table, chair, bookshelf and glass I am drinking out of are all from Ikea. Don’t know about Ikea in the states, but here it is the best place to get decent quality, cheap stuff.

  2. I went to Ikea for the first time last month. I bought bookcases. It reminded me of Dante’s Inferno, only (a) less poetry (b) more screaming children (c) meatballs.
I want more bookcases, but I do not want to repeat the Ikea experience.

  3. Right over the entrance: “Lasciate ogni speranza ch’entrate”, in Swedish.
    Over the exit:
    “Superbia, invidia ed avarizia sono
Le tre faville che hanno i cori accesi.”
(Three sparks–pride, envy, and avarice–have been kindled in all hearts.)

  4. Ikea provides BILLY bookshelves for those who haven’t discovered the joy of custom built-in shelving and woodwork or the limitations an Encyclopaedia Britannica set place upon their 66 pound per shelf limit. Don’t worry Moe, it’s a phase…you’ll grow out of it. Soon you’ll be a connossieur of fine woods and the compressed enviro-friendly chip boards will be out of your life for good. You’ll run your hands over a finely crafted shelf made of Yellow Birch and waves of ecstasy will be your reward.
