I’m – OK, I actually did type “giving a big shout-out to my Marxist peeps over at Socialism in an Age of Waiting“, but let’s face it, I don’t even think I said that correctly, let alone in a way that wasn’t sad, lame or both – at any rate, they’ve got up a nicely-long analysis about the differences in New Zealand’s, Canada’s and Australia’s formal treaty relationships with their respective indigenous peoples. Short version: unclear treaty (NZ) or no overarching treaty (Canada) still superior to any treaty at all (Australia), even if the former were improperly administered or even ignored. Given the United States’ own ignoble record on the subject, I would dispute this just a bit. Regardless, it’s an interesting subject and well worth clicking through to (not to mention the links onsite).

And, yes, “Waitangi Day” has been a favorite holiday of mine for three years, solely because it’s fun to say “Waitangi Day!” in a loud voice. I have some odd quirks.
My favorite holiday is Bongwater Day.
