If you want to guess about the name of this website – folks who know already, no cheating – or just want to talk about geekstuff, have at it.

OK, here is my guess after consulting the pigeons:
Nearly three-hundred years after hell manifested on Earth;
humanity struggles to survive.
Inside the Zone, a monolithic structure built to withstand the onslaught of encroaching Daemons,
forces of good prepare to do battle with hordes of evil.
Choose your side in the epic battle.
Determine the fate of mankind.
The Age of Judgement is at hand.
This is Obsidian.
If Icarus had chosen obsidian, would he have been able to soar evermore near the great light, or merely have given himself a hernia?
Or could it have something to do with “an erotic, demonic thrill ride“?
Moving further afield into geekdom, there’s this.
But I’m going to bet on this, even though I’ve never played it. It just feels like something you’d want an obscure reference to.
Or could you possibly have sourced the name from a transformer?
I’m guessing it’s from the Obsidian Gargoyles in Heroes of Might & Magic III.
Is this geeky enough to qualify?
US Budget Simulation
Can you manage the US federal budget? I cut the deficit to $90 billion on the first pass.
I’m starting to suspect that the reference in the weblog title is even more obscure than I feared…
Can we get a hint? 🙂
I know! I know!
But I bet I don’t count.
I’m thinking it’s either a reference to a Terry Brooks novel about Jerle Shannara, or to a (apparently) failed fantasy website, obsidianwings.com
“But I bet I don’t count.”
Now, you always count, Rivka, but don’t give it away. 🙂
My mind always seems to run the tune from Bob Dylans song “Idiot Wind” when I access your site.
Perhaps someone (Moe?) misheard the song as a child and liked the mishearing and thought a disguised self deprecating title for a blog would be funny.
