Travelblogging.

Well, seeing as all the cool kids over at Tacitus.org are posting from the road* (Tac’s in the Middle East and Mac’s in Prague), I thought that I’d do the same. ‘Course, in my case it’s a bit less glamourous, as I’m posting from my girlfriend‘s grandmother’s house… just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. An added amount of venom being dripped on my soul right now is that said grandmother has a better computer than I do.

But I perservere: besides, next month we go to Kitty Hawk. That’s an interesting place to go, right?

*Some good posts, too – and some of our readers may have actually come to this place from somewhere else besides Tacitus.org, so I should stop assuming that you folks have already read the Good Bits over there.

UPDATE: I would have been cheefully merciless in my mockery for that one egregious typo, actually. Gotta love Saturdays.

YET ANOTHER UPDATE: I hang my head in shame that Fafnir had to remind me that he’s been visiting… places, too.

I also would like to note that I so, so, so badly want to upgrade my usual connection from dialup. Yup, my girlfriend’s grandmother is just kicking my butt in all aspects of the computer experience. I am shamed, shamed I tell you. Shamed!

  1. Traveling here from tacitus.org I can tell you the weather was fine and roads were clear and the smokies asleep behind the billboards.
Customs was a snap and the natives are friendly, tho reserved about strangers. Language less colorful but exterior decor quite brighter. And no cranky military types.

  2. “That’s Pittsburgh to you, bucko.”
    Ah.
“Anyway, I live in the city. Whereabouts are you? Mt. Lebanon?”
McKeesport, apparently… which is apparently not quite ‘just outside Pittsburgh’, either. Hey, I drove the first half and let my girlfriend worry about the other. 🙂

  3. Going to the Warhol Museum while you’re in P,burgh, Moe?
There’s an exhibit of good Brooklyn artists there at the moment…if you’re looking for a way to kill some time…

Naah, this isn’t a tourist jaunt, strictly speaking: we’re engaging in a bit of housecleaning and grandmother-visiting. Not a hardship (I like my SO’s grandmother), but not a footloose and fancy-free excursion, either.

  6. I have it on very good authority that Mac’s Prague post was posted after he’d returned. He’s probably one of those Luddites that ignores the ‘net when he’s on vacation. Arrogant bastard.

  7. Moe,
SO’s grandma has a better computer. LOL. Somehow that reminds me of “Granny Flash” in one of the Pink Panther cartoons. I hope she’s not a hacker too, or we’re all in trouble.

  8. Sniff … no love for ol’ Chinablogging me, Moe?
Ahem. The funny thing about Tacitus’ dispatches from abroad is that he tends to write his best stuff — like the Rwandan remembrance — long after he’s returned. That man needs to get himself to grad school so he can hone that amateur talent into a real writing gig. (Move over, Tom Friedman.)
