AP calls him defiant, but says that the polls look bleak for him. Reuters notes the impending loss of Steve Grossman to Kerry. AFP – who, to be honest, I don’t trust to tell me if the sky is blue – has the good old anonymous sources saying that Dean’s about to drop out. And Zogby is calling the Wisconsin primary as 47% for Kerry, 23% for Dean and 20% for Edwards.
Howard, boychik, if you’ve been waiting for the right moment to do something, stop waiting.
UPDATE: Umm. Well. That was certainly… something.
Moe, the sky isn’t blue. Light scatters when it passes through particles such as nitrogen and oxygen that have a diameter one-tenth that of the wavelength (colour) of the light. Sunlight is made up of all the different colours of the spectrum, but because of these elements in the atmosphere, the colour blue is scattered much more efficiently than the others. It’s called Rayleigh Scattering, though I believe no actual scattering of Rayleighs is involved.
Reminds me of the updated version of the old poem:
Tell me why the stars do shine
Tell me why the ivy twines
Tell me why the sky is blue
And I will tell you just why I love you.
[Original]
Because God made the stars to shine
Because God made the ivy twine
Because God made the ocean blue
Because God made you that’s why I love you.
[New]
Nuclear fusion makes the stars to shine.
Tropism makes the ivy twine.
Rayleigh scattering makes the sky so blue.
Testicular hormones is why I love you.
Very cool! 😀
At this point, wouldn’t the “right thing” for Dean to do would be for him to announce his candidacy as a third-party candidate in the general election?
Maybe the Greens could run a Dean-Kuchinich ticket this time around now that Nader seems no longer interested in being their candidate.
Thorley, that would be the “right-wing thing to do.”
In other words, only in your dreams, boy-o.
My hope is that the reason he’s being such an idiot is to stave off a leftist defection as long as possible, or to stick around as an attack surrogate for Kerry.
Otherwise, he’s a total moron and I’ve lost all respect for him. Part of his appeal was his willingness to tell it straight, and his Joementum-like optimism gives that image the lie.
btw, it still says afp in yer post.
“btw, it still says afp in yer post.”
Well, yeah: that’s the acronym for Agence France Presse, after all. Am I missing something?
i am a moron.
Don’t sweat it. 🙂
At this point, shouldn’t everyone but Kerry drop out? Do we really have to hear from all the states’ voters? Democracy is so dreadfully tiresome, isn’t it?
Any word on who the new Dean Campaign chairman is going to be?
Anyone want to speculate about what’s going to happen? Will Dean drop out after tonight? Drop out after Super Tuesday? Stay in the race?
