That’s the category that I’ve decided to file dumb-ass statements by religious types who should know better under.
In this case statements like Pat Robertson’s that God is most assuredly letting him know that George W Bush is going to be re-elected by wide margins in November. It’d be worth a close election (as long as Bush still wins it, of course) just to watch old Pat try to wiggle out of it afterwards: the problem with guys like Robertson is that when he reads the Old Testament he spends too much time in Leviticus and not enough in either Job* or Ecclesiastes.
Even more shockingly, the Orbital Mind Control Lasers controlling FoxNews must have gone off the beam or something, because when they reported this ‘news’ story they somehow unaccountably included this quote:
The Rev. Barry W. Lynn, a frequent Robertson critic and executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State (search), said he had a prediction of his own: “Pat Robertson in 2004 will continue to use his multimillion broadcasting empire to promote George Bush and other Republican candidates.”
In a reference to Bush’s political adviser, Lynn said, “Maybe Pat got a message from Karl Rove (search) and thought it was from God.”
There’ll be bloody purges in the copyrooms tonight over this, let me tell you: just like the ones over at Best of the Web, which is where I got the link in the first place. Disgusting how these Right-wingers stick together, huh? (/Sarcasm)

Robertson: God will anoint Bush
Straight from the fair and balanced reporting of Fox News, this is too funny to pass up: Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said Friday he believes God has told him President Bush will be re-elected in a “blowout” in November. “I…
Don’t be silly, Moe. If you’d lined up a dozen Governors five years ago and one of them had been George W. Bush, no one would have picked him out as a likely president.
He fluked the election; he somehow managed to avoid serious flack being chucked his way by Democrats and the anti-war lobby; he failed to get Bin Laden, helped his rich friends out, and alienated many of the USA’s allies, yet is still considered to be doing a good job; it’s obvious God’s on his side.
He got Saddam Hussein as a Christmas present. Santa Claus is Saint Nicholas. How much more evidence do you need?!!
