Despite the desire of some Democrats for war, the fight over prescription drug benefits is over. The AARP has given its blessing to the GOP’s version of the bill. Expect much hand-wringing, impassioned speechmaking, and rallying-of-the-base-ing in the next few months, but mark these words: The die is cast, this goose is cooked, its fate is sealed, (insert appropriate cliche here).
Thus sayeth the AARP (peace be upon it).
Well, maybe the Democrats will block the energy bill. Or, maybe not.
Are the Dems actually, you know, proposing anything these days? Or are they simply opposed to Bush’s things?
The Dems appear to be completely flummoxed, Spc — they’ve been playing defense so long, they’ve forgotten how to play offense. It doesn’t bode well for them in the upcoming election.
Republicans had a similar problem when they took over in 94. Been out of power so long didn’t know how to run things. It could be argued they still don’t know how, but the Dems haven’t taken the house and it doesn’t look likely.
